Please read the Terms and Conditions of Friends of the Museums (Singapore) ("FOM") carefully before accessing, using or obtaining any materials, information, products or services. By accessing, browsing and using the FOM Website, and/or by completing an online form, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions and our Privacy Policy.

Our Website may contain links to third-party web sites or services that are not owned or controlled by FOM. FOM has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third party web sites or services.

You further acknowledge and agree that FOM shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with your use of or reliance on any such content, goods or services available on or through any such web sites or services.

FOM reserves the right to change these Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice and your continued use of the Website/Services following any changes shall be deemed to be your acceptance of such change. It is therefore your responsibility to check the Terms and Conditions regularly for any changes.

  1. Membership

    FOM offers a variety of membership options, as outlined on the “Join Us” page of our website.

    FOM membership is subject to approval and is strictly non-transferable.
    Membership starts on successful processing of payment. Payment options are cash, cheque and credit card (via PayPal). FOM is not responsible and/or liable for any matters arising from the use of the PayPal website. Please take note that it takes 5-7 working days for the processing of a cheque or cash. Upon successful completion of payment, an FOM membership card will be sent to the member. Membership may run for 1 to 2 years; please choose the option you prefer when signing up.

    Change of membership can only take place on renewal, with the exception of upgrading from Single to Joint membership.

    Members shall be responsible for informing FOM of any change to their mailing address or personal particulars. FOM shall not be responsible for any dispute or situation regardless of whether it results in any loss or damage that may arise due to incorrect or outdated records.

  2. Refund Policy Membership Fee

    All membership subscription fees paid for current or advance membership are strictly non-refundable for any unused period of subscription upon resignation, termination in any manner whatsoever, or change of membership types.

  3. Termination of Membership

    FOM reserves the right to terminate the Membership due to non-receipt of subscription or in accordance with Clause 5.4 of the Constitution.

  4. Member Activities

    Please visit the individual Member Event page for more details on the programme policy. Fees applicable to Member Activities can be paid by cash, cheque, credit card via PayPal.

    Member Activities are made up of Non-refundable events and Refundable events.

    For Non-refundable events (such as theatre tickets);
    Members may transfer attendance to another FOM member by providing the new attendee’s name to the FOM Office by email at least 3 working days prior to the event.

    Refundable events; Refundable events can be cancelled up to 3 working days prior to the programme by sending an email to the FOM Office. For instance, Monday (during office hours) is the deadline to cancel participation in an event scheduled for Thursday. A cancellation fee of S$5 will apply for each cancellation.

    Refund to credit card may take more than 30 days depending on the card company involved. Refund by cheque may take up to 21 days. There are no refunds for cancellations received less than 3 working days before the event. Members may transfer attendance to another FOM member by providing the new attendee’s name to the FOM Office by email at least 3 working days prior to the event.

    There will be no refund for registrants who do not turn up for the activity.

  5. Docent Training

    The Docent Training programme prepares members of the FOM to guide in one of 10 museums and heritage centres in Singapore: Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), Changi Chapel and Museum (CCM), Gillman Barracks (GB), Indian Heritage Centre (IHC), Malay Heritage Centre (MHC), National Museum of Singapore (NMS), Peranakan Museum (TPM), Singapore Art Museum (SAM), Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI), Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (SYSNMH), as well as conduct walking tours in Chinatown and Kampong Gelam.

    There is a training fee applicable.

    There is no refund of the training fee unless otherwise stated in paragraph 8.9.3 of the By-laws.

    You must be a member of FOM in order to be a FOM docent. If you are not currently a member, you must join FOM before you can join the course.
    Commitment after the course; once you are accepted into the FOM Docent Training Programme, you will be required to sign a form that commits you to actively guide (up to two tours each month) for at least one year following the completion of your training.

  6. Code of Conduct

    The Code of Ethics for Museums Friends and Volunteers of the World Federation of Friends of Museums (WFFM) and the FOM Code of Conduct define the standards of behaviour which are expected from all of our members and volunteers.

  7. Indemnity

    FOM Members agree to indemnify and hold FOM, its officers, employees, servants, agents or other persons engaged by FOM, from all liability for all claims, demands, actions, for all damages and losses including on account of death or on account of any personal injury (including injury resulting in death) however caused or sustained by the member, and/or all damages and losses however caused to the member’s personal belongings suffered at any time at which the member attends FOM activities.

  8. Privacy Policy

    Members agree to be bound by FOM’s Privacy Policy, as shall be amended from time to time, which outlines how FOM manages a member’s personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 or such other statutory provisions, and shall be deemed to have consented to FOM’s collection, use or disclosure of a member’s personal data for purposes set out there in relating to members, any purposes reasonably connected with the above-mentioned purposes and any other purposes for which FOM have specially obtained consent.

  9. Emergencies

    FOM reserves the right to notify the emergency contact, appointed by the FOM member/volunteer, in events as needed.

  10. Constitution & By-laws

    Members shall abide by the Constitution and By-Laws of FOM as shall be amended from time to time.

    FOM reserves the right to amend the By-Laws or any Terms and Conditions implemented in accordance with the By-Laws, without prior notice and members shall be deemed to have notice and shall abide with such amendments accordingly.

  11. Governing Law

    These Terms and Conditions will be governed by the laws of Singapore.
