* books on art, culture, history, politics etc
* vintage books
* cook books
* travel books/guides (recent editions), phrasebooks
Books in any language are accepted

Please do not bring:
* Books which are damaged, have brown spots, are badly dog eared etc.
* encyclopedias
* technical manuals
* academic or school textbooks or assessment books
* magazines
* reference books

Spring is here and the FOM Treble Makers are gearing up to bring a little sunshine to the residents at Kwong Wai Shui Hospital end of April!. Let's come together and truly impact the lives of our hardworking migrant workers who face the blazing sun everyday.One Umbrella Drive, organised by Its Raining Raincoats, hopes to encourage evry household that has an extra umbrella to share to donate it to the migrant workers. These umbrellas will provide shade to the migrant workers, making their workdays a bit more comfortable. 

FOM Members Care  will be collecting umbrellas to donate to the migrant workers on 16th Oct at ACM just before the in person MML. We will accept umbrellas of all kinds as long as the following conditions are met.

1) Must be in good working condition

2) No tears, holes, mould or unpleasant odours

3) Mechanism to open and close the umbrellas must be working 

4) Corporate logos are fine

5) No minimum or maximum quantity

6) Both compact and long umbrellas are welcome

Let's make this drive a resounding success and provide the much needed relief to the migrant workers who truly deserve it.

On August 18, 2023 the FOM Members Care Treble Makers got to know the residents of the Kwong Wai Shui Hospital through song, serenading them with classics like "Getting to Know You", "Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin (The Moon Represents my Heart)" and "Di Tanjong Katong". Our traveling minstrels visited several wards singing and distributing gift bags with wet wipes and dry tissues. It was wonderful to see how full of heart everyone was. It was an emotional and fulfilling day interacting with the residents and patients and putting our hearts and souls into our singing.

Books Beyond Borders collects and sells gently-used books in Singapore. They donate 100% of net profits to support projects in Nepal. They provide grants to enable educational projects, such as setting up school libraries, developing STEM programs, and providing much-needed classroom materials.

FOM members and friends experienced the first firing in three years at the heritage award-winning Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle, home to Singapore's oldest surviving dragon kiln. Thank you to Mrs Tan for sharing the fascinating history of dragon kilns and her family's Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle. And thank you to the Thow Kwang Ceramic Artists who generously shared their time with us to explain the process of firing a wood-burning dragon kiln. We even had a chance to feed the dragon. Long live the dragon kiln in Singapore!

Thank you to the 40 FOM urban archaeologists who came out for the FOM Singapore Heritage Tile Tidy on Saturday 8 May in Bukit Brown Cemetery.

By that I mean we have confirmed the dragonflies and damselflies we surveyed on Saturday 6 March, updated our data sheets, and uploaded the information onto the NParks data base.

With the data collected from survey transects from the various parks around Singapore during the designated survey periods, NParks can start piecing together information about where our dragonflies and damselflies are found and in what numbers. This information will contribute towards better park management and conservation measures. Thank you to FOM member Sim Chong Teck for suggesting this fun activity!

Thank you to everyone who voted for their favorite photograph in the Spring Equinox Photography Contest by "liking" it on Facebook. The "Fan Favorite" is Vince Kasten's photograph of "Love at First Sight" between a Common Amber Wing and a Common Scarlet. "Best in Show" was awarded to Jo Wright for her delightful Yellowbar Flutterer, both taken during the FOM NParks Dragonfly Watch @ GBTB on 6 March 2021.

94 FOM Members and Friends walked 641 KM in the FOM Walk for Rice 2020 on 5 December 2020 in the Singapore Botanic Gardens and On Their Own!

With the Fair Price partnership, this translates to 2137 Bowls of White Rice, 2137 Bowls of Brown Rice, and 2137 Bowls of Oatmeal for the Needy.

2. Ideally, should be partnered with a Singapore-registered charity. (Events in many cases introduce the charity to a new audience. Therefore, it should represent the charity in such a way that it will encourage continued volunteer support.)

3. Should not include a registration fee nor a mandatory financial contribution to participate.

4. Should promote FOM community bonding.

5. Should be inclusive (ideally held on weekends or in the evening or in conjunction with an FOM event, and should not require advanced training.)
