Friends of the Museums Asian Film Groups
FOM sponsors biannual film groups, both study groups (where the film is viewed as a group following a brief introduction, then followed by a discussion) and discussion groups (where films are viewed individually, then discussed as a group). Each group meets for approximately 3-4 months to see and discuss classical and new Asian and regional films. The current programmes are:
Spring 2012: An Asian Film Discussion Group
After the excellent start to our first film group discussion we have chosen a rather bold film for the next meeting on Friday May 18th.
The movie is a French film that was shown in Cannes along with the Toronto film festival. It is called House of Pleasures, and is directed by the acclaimed french director Bertrand Bonello.
The blurb on the film is as follows:
"The House Of Pleasures depicts a highly cinematic and atmospheric look at the final days of a turn of the century brothel when much of the Parisian sex trade was confined to grand maisons, populated by elegant madams and vetted clientele and Xavier Beauvois."
It was recently released in Singapore and is currently playing at Shaw (LIDO).
Novus cafe is unfortunately closing down soon so our next meeting will be at another venue. Will send out reminders closer to the time, but just letting you know about the film so you can plan to see it at your convenience.
